THE PROGRAM

Engaging in Molding Choices

Engaging in Molding Choices (EMC) is a program designed to equip youth with essential life, communication, and financial skills necessary for effectively and efficiently navigating today’s world. EMC provides a practical curriculum that not only highlights these vital skills but also emphasizes mental health wellness and the importance of protecting one's mental health as key tools for success in any career field.
Participants will learn critical skills such as establishing bank accounts through local banks, managing finances, navigating DMV processes and documentation, conducting themselves appropriately in the workplace, ensuring grammatical correctness, and exploring job opportunities. Moreover, the program underscores the importance of maintaining a healthy mindset and emotional resilience.

The program’s founder, Shawn Parker, has made this initiative possible by funding it through his latest business venture, Santa Barbara Prep Movers and Handyman Service. Drawing from his own experiences of seeking guidance during his youth, Parker understands how crucial these opportunities are for facilitating a smooth transition from dependence to independence. The program’s mission is to equip youth from diverse backgrounds with the appropriate guidance and management skills they need not only for sustainable living but also for prioritizing mental health wellness. Most importantly, it aims to help them realize the futures they have always envisioned.

The Engaging in Molding Choices (EMC) program is made possible through a collaborative effort involving the City of Santa Barbara, the Santa Barbara Unified School District, The Club, banking institutions, local non-profit organizations, and various local businesses.
